I have been a Phoenix, AZ, Audiologist for over 30 years. Fifteen years ago, I believed that I could make a change in my patient’s lives beyond the hour I spent with them at their appointments.
Dr. Day received her bachelors' degree in communication disorders and her MBA from Arizona State University and Doctorate in Audiology from Arizona School for Health Sciences, now A.T. Still University. Dr. Day has taught both vestibular classes and CAPD classes at Arizona State University and A.T. Still University. Dr. Day was instrumental in the development, opening, and running of the Barrow Balance Center at Barrow Neurological Institute/St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center taking the hospital-based program private in 2003 to provide a level of care to the patient that goes beyond the visit itself. She is a Board-Certified Audiologist with the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Dr. Day is a fellow with the American Academy of Doctors of Audiology and holds her license in Audiology from the State if Arizona. Dr. Day is recognized for her skills in the diagnosis and treatment of dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders. She is also recognized for her outstanding work in Central Auditory Processing Disorder diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Day is committed to providing the highest quality of care that includes appropriate diagnosis and treatment that will make a difference in the lives of her patients.
My name is Dr. Susan Schmidt, Au.D., CCC-A, and I am so fortunate to be a part of the Southwest Balance team! I specialize in evaluating patients with dizziness and balance problems.
Dr. Susan Schmidt originally obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona and then went on to get her master’s degree in Audiology at Idaho State University. She later completed her Doctor of Audiology degree at AT Still University in Mesa, AZ. She is board certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association.She has been passionate about helping patients with dizziness and balance disorders for 20+years. She joined Dr. Dana Day in 2003 to create, Arizona Balance and Hearing, a well respected balance evaluation clinic in Phoenix, AZ. She has performed countless balance evaluations over the years and has gained vast experience in diagnosis of different balance disorders and more recently experience in treating those with balance disorders, She also specializes in tinnitus evaluations and treatments as well. Counseling her patients through these different treatments is one of her strengths. She Is now the clinical director of Southwest Dizziness, Balance and Ear Institute and oversees the testing and treatment of patients as well as training current and future staff audiologists in maintaining the most effective outcomes for our patients.

I am a local (and consider myself a native) Arizonan. I attended Arizona State University where I earned my bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Science in 2012 and received my Doctorate of Audiology from AT Still University in Mesa, Arizona in 2017.
I am passionate about improving my patients' quality of life by providing patient-centered care that focuses on solutions that are unique to each patient’s hearing and lifestyle needs. I enjoy going above and beyond for my patients to help them hear and communicate better.
Dr. Day has been a Phoenix, AZ, Audiologist for over 35 years. Believing that she could make a change in the lives of her patients beyond the hour spent with them at their appointments, she took a leap of faith and opened Arizona Balance & Hearing Aids with Dr. Susan Schmidt. Now after 20 years of helping patients Dr. Day and Dr. Schmidt are ready to take another leap of faith, opening Southwest Balance Dizziness & Ear Institute, which will focus not only on the most comprehensive testing for balance, dizziness, and vertigo symptoms, but also the treatment of those experiencing balance, dizziness, and/or vertigo symptoms.
Too often we have found that while we are able to tell the patient why they are experiencing their symptoms there is a lack of treatment options available for treating the symptoms. Thanks to the collaboration with Dr. Howard Mango and staff Southwest Balance Dizziness & Ear Institute is the only facility in the southwest with the proprietary equipment and protocols to make a difference in at least 90% of patients we see and can treat. At the Institute are passionate about treating your imbalance, dizziness, or vertigo, whether it is decreasing your risk of falls, managing your Meniere’s episodes, imbalance due to an inner ear disorder, or vertigo due to BPPV by using evidence-based approaches and the most advanced medical technology, which allows us to diagnosis the problem and customize your care.
Our Doctors of Audiology have a passion for accurate vestibular diagnosis and full rehabilitation. Additionally, Dr. Day has a passion for those suffering from Central Auditory Processing Disorders. She is the leading expert in testing and treatment for CAPD in Phoenix and the only one in Arizona providing ARIA therapy. I am passionate about providing the most up-to-date diagnoses and treatment plans available, which include state-of-the-art technology as well as the best diagnostic tools. But the one thing that won’t change with our name is the personal touch from empathetic members who listen to you and your needs. While we may not have all the answers, it is my promise to you that we will be there throughout your journey toward better balance and will provide the information you need to make the right choices for you and your loved ones.
